What to do in Venice
Venice is one of the wealthiest provinces in Italy. It is also an expensive city. But despite of that, people still come and enjoy the fantastic sceneries and amazing sights the city has to offer.
First time visitors usually flock to the St. Mark’s Square. It is an open square and most of the sights are here. It is filled with palaces and renaissance art, mosaics, Venetian glass and marble.
Walking is the best way to explore this city. Everything is within walking distance. One of the best spots to go see is the Basilica Di San Marco. This church’s architecture is reminiscence of Byzantine and Gothic architecture. It’s fantastic. If you think the outside looks grand, wait till you come inside. The mosaics are absolutely breathtaking. The upper mosaics are bright, containing gold, bronze and the greatest combinations of stones. These are work of arts at its finest. Thanks to great Italian and European artists.
Although, you can see the best sights in Venice by walking, cruising the Grand Canal by vaporetto (water bus) is always recommended. This canal is Venice’s famous possession. Admire the buildings and all the mansions overlooking the Grand Canal as you explore. Since Venice is literally a floating city, riding the boats is an excellent way to uncover its magical beauty.
If you want to get a bite to eat, the Birraria La Corte is a favorite pizzeria among the locals and tourists alike. Their pizzas are excellent and the prices are reasonable. They also serve pasta dishes (big surprise, I know). It is located in San Polo. Although the place is big, they get busy, so you might want to make a reservation ahead of time. Call 041.275.0570.
San Polo is the smallest district in Venice and here you’ll find the best food Venice has to offer. This district is the center for the city’s markets. There’s a lot of great food to enjoy in San Polo. Give it a try.
