Italy Travel Tips

Think of visiting Italy or staying there for a longer period? Then take a couple of these tips with you, and you will enjoy the trip even more:

- Not every place is a photo opportunity. Some museums bar picture taking, particularly when you use flash. Museums are often closed for operation during Mondays.
- Famous for its groundbreaking fashion scene, Italians are not amused when you parade around wearing skimpy outfits or a beach attire, so dress appropriately.
- Italy has no return and exchange policy when shopping for items, so inspect whatever you buy carefully.
- When clothes-shopping, some stores do not even allow you to try the item on. It is best to ask permission first.
- Banks operate between 8:30 am to 1:30 pm
- Churches are open until noontime and then reopens at 6 PM. St. Peter’s is open all day long
- Shops open from 9 AM to 1 PM, and then from 4 PM to 7 PM. They are mostly closed on Sundays.
- For emergencies, dial 113. This is similar to US 911.
- Their water resources maybe chlorinated just a bit too much for your taste. You may choose to drink mineral water or bottle water instead.
- When eating spaghetti, you must roll this using your fork. Cutting them into pieces is regarded in bad taste.
- They don’t usually offer Kid’s meal at restaurants. So, when ordering for your little ones, ask for half-portions instead.
- You must be at least 21 years old to be able to rent a car.
- Uscita is EXIT. You will often see these in the expressways and highways.
- It is illegal to use your cell phone when driving in Italy.
- If caught by the traffic police, they may charge you outright for penalties.
- It is common for Italians to honk their horns often. They also love to drive fast and to tailgate.
- On highways, Speed limit is 80mph or 130 kph. In provincial roads it is 70 mph or 110 kph.
