When it’s time to leave the wonderful land of Italy, you’ll most likely be taking back some mementos, clothing, etc. If you’re a UK or US citizen, here’s some quick information about Duty-paid allowances.
US Citizens Italy Duty-Paid Guidelines
First, for the most up-to-date information, all US citizens should visit the US Department of Homeland Security, which is located at: http://www.customs.treas.gov.
As a US citizen you can take back up to $800 of duty-paid goods. You need to be out of the country for at least 48 hours and you can’t have taken another international trip within the past month.
The rules apply to everyone and you can combine the allowances.
UK Citizens Italy Duty-Paid Guidelines
Basically, you can’t buy duty-free goods within the European Union. As long as what you’re bringing back isn’t for commercial use, you’re good to go.
Here’s a quick list of some of the limits for alcohol and tobacco:
• 3,200 cigarettes
• 110 liters of beer
• 90 liters of wine
• 200 cigars
• 10 liters of spirits
