Like any good vacationer, you want to know when to go and not go to Italy. Is there a bad time to visit this wonderful country?
The question of when to visit Italy is tough to answer without knowing you. Do you consider weather only? Do you factor in Italy tourists? Perhaps both? With that in mind, I’ll give you some information to help you find your own “best” time to visit Italy.
Let’s take a look at Italy weather. May through September are pretty much the good months to visit if you like temperatures 70°F of above. Here’s an average temperature breakdown for a couple popular cities.
When to Visit Rome
May: 71°F
June: 77°F
July: 83°F
August: 82°F
September: 75°F
When to Visit Milan
May: 70°F
June: 77°F
July: 83°F
August: 84°F
September: 80°F
Remember, it can get hot during the summer months. It’s not always pleasant.
Tourist Crowds
As you might expect, July and August are prime weather months. As such, the crowds swell. For instance, it would be wise to stay away from Venice during these two months.
Ideally, try to plan your Italy vacation in June or September if you want sun and fun. The crowds are a little less and you’ll enjoy Italy more. If you’re more into exploring the Italian countryside and doing more non-water / outdoors activity, May and October can be great months.
By scheduling your Italy vacation slightly away from peak times you’ll save a good deal of money. Just don’t get too frugal unless you like the rainy and chilly atmosphere that the months of November through March bring.
