Bargello National Museum
Once the headquarters for the podesta during the Renaissance, and later a prison, the Bargello National Museum is now a fabulous attraction in Florence, Italy.
Today, the Bargello serves as art museum, Museo Nazionale. And many consider it to be one of the great gems of Florence. It’s come a long way from being a place that housed Italy’s “most wanted” and enemies of the state.
If you enjoy, or want to enjoy, Renaissance sculpture, the Bargello is the museum for you. You’ll be in pure bliss as you carefully inspect fabulous arts from the greats, such as Michelangelo, Donatello and Benvenuto Cellini.
The Bargello houses many masterpieces, such as Donatello’s Dave and Vincenzo Gemito’s Pescatore.
Many consider the Bargello to be one of the most missed attractions in all of Italy.
The price is right at just €4 ($5.30 USD) for full admission to the Bargello. European citizens under 18 and over 65 are free as are tourist guides.
The Bargello is open Monday to Sunday. It closes on some Sundays and Mondays, so check ahead if you plan to visit the Bargello National Museum on these days.
When there, you can get an audio guide. It’s available in Italian or English for $5.30 USD for singles or $8 USD for couples.
After you soak in some great art, take a stroll over to the Badia Fiorentina, which is an ancient church that was rebuilt in 1285. It’s located about one block NW of the Bargello National Museum.
